THE ECONOMIC SITUATION OF THE SHIDA KARTLI REGION AND THE PROBLEMS OF ITS DEVELOPMENT

Summary

The period after the achievement of Georgia's political independence to the present day was politically and economically difficult and contradictory. Its economy was far from the basic parameters of safe development.Georgia is far behind the countries of Eastern Europe, the Baltics and the CIS.

At present, the level of economic development of Georgia is far from desired. In the country, low is business activity, high is unemployment, inflation increases, and the national currency is depreciated. Inflation and the growth of consumer prices are a key factor in the deterioration of the level and quality of life of the population. All this affects the regional development of the country. The article shows the economic situation of the Shida Kartli region and the problems of its development.

Shida Kartli is a historical and geographical province and consists of the central part of Shida Kartli. As a result of the ethnic and political conflicts that arose in the early 1990s, the Georgian government lost control over part of Shida Kartli. in the region there is a severe socio-economic situation. The problem of employment is acute.

Economic activity of Shida Kartli is mainly based on the following areas: agriculture, industry, tourism, trade, transport and communications, energy and construction.

The problem of employment in the region is quite acute. Over the past years, the number of jobs has not increased, and the growth of unemployment has led to labor migration. The main source of income in the region is income from the sale of agricultural products. The amount of assistance received from remittances and relatives received from abroad is higher in the monetary incomes of the region.

Shida Kartli is one of the most important regions for the development of agriculture in Georgia.A special place in the region is the production of apples.

It is necessary to note the tourist potential of Shida Kartli, which is connected with the cultural, historical and religious values in the region. Most companies operating in Shida Kartli work in the business sector (41%) and 12% in the food industry.

The article analyzes the situation in the leading sector of the economy of the Shida Kartli region, industry and agriculture. It should also be noted that the economic weakness of this region and the problems of economic growth are a direct result of the war with Russia and the economic crisis. The prospect for the development of the region largely depends on the promotion of political reconciliation between the Georgian government and the separatist regime of South Ossetia.
